South Side is home to quaint shops, full bars, and a lot of food. With a bar on just about every corner, it takes a lot to stand out. Trixie’s Bar and Game Room doesn’t just stand out, it stands up. Trixie’s is filled with classic pinball and arcade games from wall to wall. It is not just the games that makes Trixie’s unique, adorning the room you’ll find anything from a big foot sign to a shuffle board table. Everything about Trixie’s gives an inviting warmth to a wide range of clientele. However, what really makes Trixie’s stand out from every bar in South Side is the weekly comedy Stand-Up available to all patrons.

Trixie’s Comedy Night is every Sunday at 8:30 pm, and everybody who comes to the bar can sign up to stand- up, even if it’s your first time. Trixie’s Bar and Game Room welcomes everyone to comedy night, new and old.

So why do Stand-Up? Regular Molly Wright says, “It’s like group therapy.” Comedy seems to bring people together and keeps people happy. Add some liquid courage to the mix, and you get one heck of a good night. When doing comedy, people tend to cling to what they know; there is always a laugh or two just waiting to be brought out to a crowd. No one really knows why we laugh, but we do all know that it’s fun, relaxing, and at times, very memorable. People who come to Trixie’s come to drink, laugh, and have a good time. If you are nervous about messing up, that’s what the drinks are for. Wright says, “You need to be okay with bombing. Comedians have told me that everybody bombs three times in their comedy life.”

Like most places, it is all about the people you are surrounded by. Trixie’s is the place to find new friends to laugh and have a good time with. Even the ones who bomb still get a laugh or two. After all, it is all about the experience. The weekend I visited, a few people signed up by accident, whether it was from the liquor or something else, two people ended up performing stand-up comedy for the first time in their life. They were nervous, and they were not regulars, but they tried and ultimately succeeded.

Trixie’s Bar and Game Room does an excellent job of bringing people of different backgrounds and lifestyles together with not just beer, but comedy.
