22-HOUR GALLERY CRAWL

Not every event is quite like Art All Night. This art gallery event has been a 22-year tradition, normally held in the Lawrenceville area.
Art All Night is a unique event because of all the different things you can experience while you are there. From the moment you walk up to the event, you can hear and see people playing music and crowds gathering.

What makes this place seem so open is the fact that they are open to anyone. There is no fee to submit your art and no jury. All you have to do is sign up, and you could present comedy, live music, paintings, pottery, drawings, or your videos, and Art All Night looks at it to see if it has a place within its walls.

OPEN & LIVE JAMS

Live music illustrates the feel of Art All Night. Most of what is played are acoustic and jam bands. There are three places in the warehouse where you can see different gigs: the back entrance presented the main stage (pictured above), in the back warehouse area, and a live band you could hop in and jam. Mostly playing folk music.

All the music is free for the pubic to enjoy, and you can also sign up for free to submit your music to Art All Night’s website. If you want to see your band playing there next year, you can submit online a month before the event.

OPEN PUBLIC GRAFFITI

Last year, Art All Night did not have anything like the graffiti open to the public. This year, there were multiple derby cars that were painted or garffitied on. Another section of the warehouse included a bathroom stall area that everyone was drawing on. You could fine the various markers in the toilet. And no, it did not have any water in it.

VIDEO ROOM

Right in the entrance, you can find Art All Night’s video rooms. Three to four rooms where covered by black curtains, and inside you can find people watching movies made by non-professionals. You could also find these movies on their YouTube pages.

PAINTINGS

Paintings were the most common art pieces at Art All Night. The event offered canvases and paint to painters who created pieces throughout the night. Pictured on the blue tarp, you can see multiple painters starting some artworks. About 20 to 30 artists where all painting in a semicircle, and you could watch them as they painted and see them come and go when they finished. They painted throughout the 22-hour event, and many artists where still painting even towards the end of the event. There where also cars there that were painted on, most of it being graffiti tags. These were new to the event, as they did not have them in previous years.

FASHION

Fashion is a newer addition to this event. One dress that was Pittsburgh-themed was black and white and had a maze running through it. There where only dresses made, but each one was completely different from the next.

POTTERY & SCULPTURE

Sculptures where also among the artwork, some of them being life-size and others standing a couple feet bigger than a 6-foot tall human. Some were made out of wood and painted on, and one that caught many people’s eyes was an orange tube-like sculpture.
